Analyse the micro elements of film form in a scene from a film from the horror genre and how these elements create meaning and conform to genre conventions In the 1976 horror film, “ Carrie”, directed by Brian De Palma (who also directed the 1983 film Scarface ), and based on the Stephan King novel of the same name, the micro elements of film are used to convey that this film is in the horror genre, as demonstrated in the “Billy slaughters a pig” scene from the beginning of the picture.    In this scene the mise en scene indicates heavily that this film is of the horror genre. In the beginning of the scene the group of teenagers leans a ladder against a wall, which has a sign on it labelling the factory the “Bates pig farm”. How Cinematography is used to create meaning in the "Do Something!" Scene from The Truman Show

In the 1998 film, " The Truman Show" cinematography is used heavily to create a large amount of meaning which cannot be conveyed through just acting and mise-en-scene alone. Over the story arc of the film, Truman the titular character gradually realizes that his entire life is a lie, and he begins to act erratically due to this realization, something which is shown in the clip from the middle of the film, the " do something! " scene with Truman and his wife, Meryl. This scene starts out with a low angle shot of Meryl standing in front of their kitchen island, which is shot from Truman's eye level, as he is sat down in a dining room chair, looking at her. This indicates that Meryl has more power in the relationship and in this scene than Truman, which the audience knows is true, as Meryl is an actor and knows that Truman lives in a television set, while Truman does not know this, giving her the upper hand, as she also has the power of the TV studio behind her, as...

Juno Mise-En-Scene Essay

The first scene I studied was the “ Doodle which can’t be un-did ” scene, at the beginning of the film where Juno first finds out that she is pregnant, in her hometown’s drugstore. When Juno first enters the shop, she walks the centre of the shop, where the pregnancy tests are located. The location of the tests can be interpreted as Juno’s pregnancy becoming the focal point in her life as it is front and centre in her mind, much like the tests are in the drugstore. As the camera pans around the shop the audience realises it is small but contains a variety of different items. This relates to the rest of the film, as it takes place in Juno’s hometown, making the world that we see Juno in extremely small, but still full of life, much like the small but extremely full drugstore which she starts out her journey in.
