Carrie (1976)
I expected this to be a horror film, as all the promotional materials and the cover gave off that expectation, due to the dark colours used and the taglines used to promote this film. These included "If you've got a taste for terror... Take Carrie to the prom.". This film is also referenced in popular culture as well, due to the infamous pigs blood scene which has been referenced in things such as American Dad, Family Guy, as well as in stand up comedy.

The plot changes when Carrie first uses her new powers, by flipping the principals ashtray over, making him jump, and then when she makes the little boy fall off his bike. This shows a shift of power to Carrie, making her story change. She is then asked out to the prom by Sue Snell's boyfriend, Tommy who is handsome and popular, making her feel liked and accepted by others at her school.  However, the narrative changes again when Chris and her boyfriend dump pig's blood over Carrie, making her feel ostracized and leads her to attacking the school and killing many, before going on a rampage throughout the town where she kills many of the others in the town. She then goes home and is stabbed by her mother in the name of religion, then burns her house down around her mother and herself, killing both of them.

The most memorable moment in this film is the iconic pig's blood scene, where Chris and Billy dump blood over Carrie leading to her murderous rampage, which is one of the most iconic scenes in TV and movie history, and is a cinematic marvel due to the camera work and the lighting. One of the final scenes in the film where Carrie kills herself and her mother is also a memorable scene, as is the opening shot where Carrie gets her period and becomes overwhelmed.

This was a very emotional film,as although it was a horror film the viewer truly felt bad for Carrie in the beginning, though this may have changed over the course of her rampage.

Tommy and Carrie were the characters which I felt like I connected to the most, due to their character arch. Tommy was not given a full story, and was killed off early, making the viewer feel like he may have missed out on his future. Carrie was also raised in a bad environment and was never given the chance to lead a normal and happy life, making the viewer feel bad for her.

How Cinematography is used to create meaning in the "Do Something!" Scene from The Truman Show

In the 1998 film, " The Truman Show" cinematography is used heavily to create a large amount of meaning which cannot be conveyed through just acting and mise-en-scene alone. Over the story arc of the film, Truman the titular character gradually realizes that his entire life is a lie, and he begins to act erratically due to this realization, something which is shown in the clip from the middle of the film, the " do something! " scene with Truman and his wife, Meryl. Juno Mise-En-Scene Essay

The first scene I studied was the “ Doodle which can’t be un-did ” scene, at the beginning of the film where Juno first finds out that she is pregnant, in her hometown’s drugstore. When Juno first enters the shop, she walks the centre of the shop, where the pregnancy tests are located. The location of the tests can be interpreted as Juno’s pregnancy becoming the focal point in her life as it is front and centre in her mind, much like the tests are in the drugstore. As the camera pans around the shop the audience realises it is small but contains a variety of different items. This relates to the rest of the film, as it takes place in Juno’s hometown, making the world that we see Juno in extremely small, but still full of life, much like the small but extremely full drugstore which she starts out her journey in.
